THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Superstar Mammootty will lead the celebrity delegates at the World Malayali Council (WMC) conference that begins in Singapore next month, the organizers said.
The sixth edition of the three-day conference that begins Aug. 22 is packed with events for global Malayali professionals, entrepreneurs, WMC province leaders and businessmen from America, Middle East, Europe, India, Africa and Asia-Pacific.
A business and investment forum, conferences on education, tourism and traditional medicine and exhibitions on collaborative and investment opportunities will be the highlights of the conference.
The WMC has implemented several projects in Kerala to help the economically disadvantaged, which include village adoption, women’s employment training, scholarship for poor children, old age care etc. It has also formed a chamber of commerce and has registered with the Indian government to help in the networking process for Malayali businessmen and entrepreneurs around the world. “The Singapore meet has been conceived as a forum to create awareness of mutual business opportunities,” Stephen Anathas, general secretary of the council, said. “Singapore is one of the oldest destinations for Malayali migrants and there are over 25,000 Malayalis in the city-state. The global meet is to be held at the Orchid Country Club,” Sudheen Vasnath, WMC treasurer, added.
Chinese businesspersons from Singapore are looking for business opportunities in Kerala and the city-state’s Senior Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Balaji Sadasivan was in Kerala for three days last month to identify areas for investments. Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yoe is to deliver the keynote address. A special exhibition displaying business and investment opportunities in Kerala — Soaring Kerala 2U — would also be organized.
