JEDDAH: Local police yesterday arrested a man they believe was one of three people who used a fake check for SR12 million to obtain the deed to a property in the southern city of Abha.
“A property owner filed a complaint at the Sharafia police station about three men who cheated him out of his plot in a residential area in Abha by offering him a huge price,” said Misfar Al-Joaed, spokesman for Jeddah police.
It was too late when the man found out that he had been given a bad check. According to the police, the three men took the property owner to an expensive hotel in the city and talked about major business deals. The man then accepted the check and, before waiting to ensure that the check was valid, signed over the deed to the property.
The other two men are still being sought, police said.
