JEDDAH: The Ministry of Labor has announced that it will soon conduct all its recruitment activities, including issuing of work visas and changing occupation in the work permit, electronically, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday, quoting Mufarrij Al-Haqbani, undersecretary for planning and development.
“There will be no more queues and crowding at the labor offices, as all dealings will be done online,” he said.
Al-Haqbani added that the ministry signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) to establish a special office at the JCCI to facilitate the work of the private sector, particularly in matters concerning recruitment of expatriates.
“The role of the ministry is no longer limited to recruitment, work visas and employment. It will serve the citizens and support them in various fields,” Al-Haqbani said.
Under the terms of agreement signed with the JCCI, the office will study requests of companies and establishments for foreign recruitment, evaluate their real needs, specify the ratio of Saudis in each firm, classify jobs and conduct training programs.
Al-Haqbani said the ministry would approve the requests forwarded by the as-of-yet-unnamed office and authenticated by the chairman of the JCCI within a week.
