THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kavya Madhavan, one of the most successful actresses in Malayalam filmdom, is to marry a Kuwait-based nonresident Indian early next year.
“His name is Nishal Chandran. He’s a technical adviser with the National Bank of Kuwait in Kuwait city,” Kavya said Thursday. “He had acted in some popular films as a child artiste and he suits me since he’s someone who understands (my life in) cinema.” Kavya, however, hinted that she would call it quits after the marriage. “My priority is to finish the existing contracts and I’m not signing new ones,” she said.
“Whether I should continue my profession as an actress and other things should come later.” Debuted as a child artiste in Kamal’s 1991 film “Pookkalam Varavayi,” the 24-year-old has acted in more than 40 films including Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s “Nalu Pennungal” and Santosh Sivan’s “Ananthabhadhram,” in which she presented a scintillating performance.
Her recent hits include “Madampy” in which she pairs with Mohanlal and the multistarrer “Twenty:20” which is currently running to the packed houses.
The marriage comes at the height of her career, much to the chagrin of her fans.
“It’s an arranged marriage decided by my parents. I also preferred an NRI as my partner since living abroad ensures some privacy. After retirement, you’ll be continued to be haunted by the media and the public here,” she told a television channel.
Kavya was born in the village of Nileshwaram in the northern district of Kasaragod to businessman P. Madhavan and Shyamala, a housewife. When in school, she won the Kalathilakam (a title bestowed on the artist who proves her skills in most artistic fields during a school youth festival).
She won the state award for the best actress in 2004 (“Perumazhakkalam”), Film Critics Award in 2000 (“Chandranudhikkunna Dikkil”), Lux Asianet Film Award 2000 (“Kochu Kochu Santhoshanghal”), Atlas Film Award 2001 (“Kochu Kochu Santhoshanghal”) and Vanitha Surya TV film award and Kerala Film Critics Award in 2006 (“Ananthabhadhram”).
