JEDDAH: The knockout stages of the AFC Youth Championship 2008 begin today with Saudi Arabia battling UAE in one of four quarterfinal matches.
The Kingdom team is expected to have a tough match against UAE.
UAE qualified first of Group B after winning all three matches and taking the full nine points against South Korea, Iraq and Syria. The Saudis qualified second of Group A with two wins against Iran and Yemen and a draw against Japan.
Japan faces South Korea in the second match of the day. Japan qualified first of Group A with two wins and one draw against the Saudis while South Korea qualified second of Group B from two wins and one loss.
China is up against Uzbekistan in the third match. China topped Group C with two wins and one draw while Uzbekistan came second in Group D with seven points form two wins and one draw.
The final match sends Australia against North Korea. Australia is first of Group D with seven points from two wins and one draw while North Korea is second of Group C with one win and two draws with five points.
