DAMMAM: Consider it a romantic gesture between two happily married people gone drastically wrong. The Arabic daily Al-Watan reported yesterday that a Jordanian couple in Hafr Al-Batin, about 70 km south of the Kuwait and Iraqi borders with Saudi Arabia, prepared a romantic candle-lit evening to celebrate their anniversary. But at one point during the evening the two were too, uh, preoccupied to notice that a candle had tipped over and set the rug afire. When they finally noticed the burning smell and the flames licking from the floor, it was too late. The man tried to put the fire out but unfortunately he had bare feet. The local Civil Defense moved in to extinguish the flames and treat the man for minor burns. The fire engulfed the couple’s living room, leaving little more than ashes, a smoke-smell and a story to tell.
