AMMAN: The Jordanian government yesterday urged Israel to stop all “provocative” acts by extremist Jews at Al-Aqsa Mosque and held the Israeli authorities “accountable” for the safety of holy shrines and Palestinians in East Jerusalem.
“The Jordanian government has been following up with extreme concern the Israeli police’s permission of a large number of Jews to enter the premises of Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform religious rites there,” Minister of State for Information Affairs and Communication Nasser Judeh said. “The Jordanian government urges Israel to stop all such provocative activities which run counter to the international and humanitarian law, hurt feelings of Muslims, and have serious repercussions on the ongoing peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians,” he added.
Judeh underscored Israel’s “responsibility” for the safety of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinians in East Jerusalem.
