BURAIDAH: Heavy rains lashed Qassim province for a second day yesterday, leaving one man dead and inundating vast stretches of rural and residential areas and prompting municipal authorities throughout Qassim to drain the flooded roads.
Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sarrah, a Saudi employee of Buraidah Municipality, died yesterday from electric shock while trying to open water lines to help drain away floodwater in the busy King Street near King Fahd Specialist Hospital.
“His body was found floating in a pool of water by a Pakistani colleague,” a source from the municipality said.
The municipality deployed hundreds of workers to help clear roads in the region. The strong winds uprooted trees and blocked main roads leading to traffic disruptions in several areas.
In certain places such as Asyah, the electricity supply was disrupted for some time. The main Buraidah-Hail Road was completely blocked by the traffic authorities after the heavy rainfalls.
Mared Dam, located in Asyah region, was filled to the brim, with a large number of people camping at Prince Faisal bin Bandar Park in order to enjoy the blessing of rain.
Expat commits suicide
An expatriate worker committed suicide in Buraidah on Sunday. Maj. Fahd bin Ali Al-Habdan, spokesman for Qassim police, told Arab News that the man’s body was found hanging from an electrical tower north of Buraidah. “We are still investigating the case,” said Al-Habdan.
