JEDDAH: A dispute over a pair of shoes between two expatriate workers ended with one killing the other yesterday in the town of Thuwal, 80 km north of Jeddah.
“A Bangladeshi worker and three of his friends killed a Yemeni colleague during a quarrel between them at the workers’ camp in the town of Thuwal,” said Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police.
Al-Juaid said the fight began when the Yemeni worker put on his Bangladeshi colleague’s shoes without his permission. The Bangladeshi worker, in turn, called the man a thief and tried to forcefully retrieve the shoes. This led to a fight, with other workers intervening to separate the men.
Later in the day, when the workers had retired to bed, the Bangladeshi man together with three of his friends entered the Yemeni man’s room and took him to a place where they beat him till he died. The attackers then fled the scene.
