RIYADH: Police arrested a middle-aged Saudi man who robbed 15 kilograms of gold from a jewelry salesman in the Naseem district of Riyadh on Saturday, press reports said yesterday.

Officers tracked the suspect to his home in the district and retrieved some of the loot from his car, Al-Watan newspaper reported.

The salesman told police that the robber flagged his car down at a deserted place and that he thought the man wanted directions. When he pulled up, the man snatched his bag containing gold and drove away in his car, whose number plate had been removed.

Police were able to track the man down from descriptions provided by the salesman.

The man confessed to the crime and said he had been following the salesman for several days looking for an opportunity to rob him.
