AMMAN: The deficit in Jordan’s balance of trade grew by 33.6 percent in the first three quarters of the year to 5.195 billion dinars ($7.34 billion) from 3.89 billion dinars in the same period of 2007, according to official statistics released yesterday.
Economists attributed the expansion in the trade gap mainly to a 35.6 percent growth in imports, which stood at 9.34 billion dinars in the first nine months of the year.
Saudi Arabia, Jordan’s main supplier of oil, topped the list of exporters to Jordan.
