DAMMAM: The International Indian School, Dammam (IISD) has made elaborate arrangements to conduct elections to the managing committee (2008-2011) to be held today, E.K. Mohammed Shaffe, principal and chief election commissioner said. The Election Commission has taken all measures to ensure free and fair polls, he added.
IISD parents are requested to vote for seven candidates and not more than two candidates from a single Indian state, Shaffe said. Polling will be held at Boys School from 8.30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. while the counting of ballots will start at 5.30 p.m.
As many as 7,552 parents are eligible to vote in the election. “In case the father is not in the town the mother is eligible to cast the vote,” Shaffe said, adding that the mother should produce an authorization from her husband.
Eleven executives are contesting to grab a seat on the committee. They are: Mohammad Asghar Khan, S. Balamurali, Radha Krishna Murthy Ravi, Jabir Shahul Hameed, John Thomas, Aboobacker Kunnath Parambil, Mohammed Akhtar Hasnain, Mohammad Fayazuddin, Saleem Ur-Rahman, Shamshad Ahmed, and Chetan Kumar Solanki.
Navodaya Cultural Center in Dammam said it would support candidates who are capable of making improvement in education and management.
“We’ll support a panel of candidates put forth by Indian Parents Forum, as it gives representation to all states and includes highly qualified personalities,” Navodaya said.
Navodaya appealed to all parents to vote for the forum’s panel that comprises Thomas, Shahul Hameed (Kerala), Balamurali (Tamil Nadu), Fayazuddin (AP) Rahman (Rajasthan), Asghar Khan (Jharkand), and Solanki (Gujarat).
