RIYADH: The Prison Directorate is studying ways to improve administration in the Kingdom’s prisons and reform prisoners making them useful citizens.

Maj. Gen. Ali Al-Harithy, director general of prisons, said he is focusing on a strategy to reform prisoners and change the atmosphere in jails by easing prison regulations, Al-Watan newspaper reported.

The directorate is also trying to seek the assistance of international institutions which specialize in reforming prisons, said Al-Harithy, who led a Saudi delegation to an international conference on jails, which was held in Prague last week.
