JEDDAH: A police patrol seized 64.5 kilograms of hashish from a man who was driving around in a suspicious manner in a south Jeddah district, according to a police statement issued yesterday.

When the police first stopped the man and checked his car they found 1.5 kilograms of hashish concealed under his seat, said Jeddah police spokesman Col. Misfar Al-Joaed.

“Later, he confessed during interrogation that he was a member of a drug trafficking gang and stocked large quantities of the contraband in his house. The police seized 63 kilograms of the drug from his house.”

Robber held

Jeddah police detectives also arrested an African national who was wanted by the police for several robbery incidents. He was arrested while trying to flee in a stolen car yesterday.

During interrogation, the Nigerian man told the police that he had stolen eight cars recently and that he was an expert in opening locked cars. He also gave information about some other gangs who specialized in snatching handbags and mobile phones from women at commercial centers, the official said.

Youth stabbed

Police in Alkhobar arrested a university student for stabbing a youth at a shopping mall in Thaqbah neighborhood, according to a police official in the Eastern Province. The youth, 23, picked a quarrel with the other man at the mall and then attacked him with the help of his friends.
