PUNE: Saudi Arabia's Zamil Group, leader in pre-engineering buildings (PEB), announced the launch of its first manufacturing facility in India at the Ranjangaon suburb of Pune.
Adnan Al-Mansour, president of Zamil Steel Industrial Company, and Gandhi Tayoun, managing director of Zamil Steel Building India Private Limited, announced the Indian venture yesterday. According to the press release, the set up, at an investment of $32 million, has a capacity to manufacture 3,000 MT PEB every month with related components.
With a presence in 55 locations across the globe, Zamil Steel has strengthened its position as a direct supplier to customers in India. The 87,000 square meters plant will initially employ 350 employees and will cater to the needs of huge corporate businesses like Proctor & Gamble, Coca-Cola and many major clients in India and globally, the release stated.
Al-Mansour said: "Versatile use of PEB system in the construction industry can meet India's ambitious growth in the infrastructure development. As a global player, we want to be part of India's infrastructure growth by bringing international quality products to match local needs."
Gandhi further explained, "We have closely assessed the Indian PEB sector over the last few years and are now set up a plant of our own to make our presence felt. We look to bringing our global expertise and best practices along with world-class products to the Indian consumer. With this plant in India, we will further strengthen our offerings in the global market."
Speaking to the media separately, Gandhi was asked as to why the company chose Pune for their Indian operations, and he replied, "In Pune, construction activities are at its peak. The Maharashtra government has provided land for our company for the production of PEB. The proximity to Mumbai is also the reason which prompted the company to chose Pune."
Gandhi said: "Our trial run has been successfully completed and production would start this week. The facility is already producing and supplying high-end pre-engineered steel buildings to customers in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Jamshedpur. The plant has an annual production capacity of three million square meters of pre-engineered steel buildings."
On the Indian market, Gandhi said: "India is one of our key countries. The new production facility is an integral part of our India plans. It will serve exclusively the Indian market. We consider India as a major market with high growth potential."
Elaborating on the business opportunities in PEBs, Gandhi said: "The overall costs of PEBs are lower than conventional building systems. PEBs are mainly suitable for industrial buildings, commercial projects, recreational spaces, aviation and military units."
