JEDDAH: A seminar on self-employment, organized recently by the Women’s Education and Empowerment Forum in Jeddah, discussed ways to enrich the skills of women and keep them abreast with modern developments for the benefit of themselves, their families and society.
“If women are not ready to empower themselves by developing their different skills, no one else is going to do it for them.
We can make wonders if we are willing to come forward with confidence,” said Rahmathunnissa of the Italian International School in Jeddah, who presided over the event. “We lose opportunities not because of a lack of knowledge but because of faulty communication skills and a lack of confidence in facing interviews.”
Kochu Thresia Davis, headmistress of International Indian School in Jeddah, said readiness to do extra work and willingness to take risks were essential for women to achieve success in life.
“Farming is also a good field for them to get self-employed. But more important than anything is the faith in God and goodness of man,” she said.
Srikala, the principal of Buds and Blossoms School, was another speaker at the seminar. She cited the example of many ladies in Jeddah, who have reached the heights of success just by self-effort and confidence. The forum convener, O. Sameera welcomed the gathering at Dauhathul Uloom International School.
