JEDDAH: Police yesterday arrested a Saudi man in his 20s who killed a Sudanese man in Jeddah’s historic Al-Balad district on Friday.

According to eyewitnesses, the Sudanese man was driving his car when a group of youths blocked him from moving forward forcing the man to come out of his car to speak to the unruly youngsters. An argument then ensued, which soon escalated into a fight with one of the young men hitting the Sudanese man in the back of the head with a wooden stick.

Witnesses said the group then left the scene. Police, however, were able to quickly seal off the area and arrest the murderer, who was hiding close by. Police said the youth, who had reportedly run away from home, confessed to the murder, adding that he did not wish to kill the man and that he only wanted to hurt him.
