PUNE: The Maharashtra government had taken a decision to form a special crack commando team “Force One” on the lines of the National Security Guard (NSG), to be trained in Pune, according to reliable sources in the state intelligence department.
The “Force One” commandos would be trained at the Special Protection Unit (SPU) center, in Hadapsar suburb of Pune and that the basic training infrastructure for such specialized course is already available at the SPU training center, said a senior police official. About the current SPU center, the official said that currently it teaches modules like Very Very Important Persons (VVIP) security and anti-Naxalite operations.
Apart from the “Force One” commando units, the state government has also cleared a proposal to set up a new intelligence training unit in the SPU campus in Pune.
Meanwhile, a bench of the Bombay High Court consisting of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice S.A. Bobde yesterday directed the Crime Branch of the Mumbai police investigating the Nov. 26-29 terror attacks to probe the case from all angles, even as it dismissed the petitions demanding inquiry into Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare’s death and the former Revenue Minister Narayan Rane’s allegation of politician-terrorist links.
Rane, who was denied the post of chief minister of Maharashtra after former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh stepped down following the terror attacks, had alleged that some politicians were hand-in-gloves with some terrorist organizations and provided logistics and financial aid to cause mayhem in the financial capital of the country.
A PIL was filed by advocate Amin Solkar demanding Rane to disclose the names of those politicians, if he, at all, knew them, who were responsible for the terror attacks.
