RIYADH: Elections for the board members of the Saudi Journalist Association (SJA) ended yesterday in Riyadh. The new board includes seven editors in chief.
The SJA’s general assembly approved increasing the number of board members to 12, and reducing membership fees to SR250 for full-time journalists and SR150 for part-time journalists.
A number of journalists asked the board’s assistance to protect them from arbitrary dismissals and interrogation to reveal sources as well as for improved job training.
The results were as follows: Turki Al-Sudairi (228 votes), Khaled Al-Malek (226), Abdullah Al-Jahlan (199), Muhammad Al-Waeel (137), Abdul Wahaab Al-Faiz (124), Khaled Al-Farm (118), Abdul Aziz Al-Eid (116), Khaled Daraj (92 votes), Naser Al-Shehri (89), Nurah Al-Huwaiti (84), Jamal Khashoggi (68) and Jameel Al-Theyabi (65).
