MADINAH: Civil Defense authorities in Madinah issued a flood warning for the areas around the city. The Civil Defense received information late Monday about strong floodwaters forming in Wadi Al-Jazl, south of Al-Ula town, some 400 km north of Madinah, after heavy rains in the northern region.
The floodwaters blocked many rural roads and cut off several villages north of Madinah. Roads linking Al-Ula with Al-Abraq and Al-Wajh were among those blocked by floodwaters. Residents of surrounding villages complained of difficulties in crossing flooded valleys to stock up essentials.
Col. Mansour Al-Johani, official spokesman for the Civil Defense in Madinah, warned residents of the dangers of crossing flooded valleys. He cautioned villagers against using dirt roads and urged them to use the main roads when essential.
Al-Johani said the Civil Defense was fully geared to meet any emergencies.
