RIYADH: More than six million cans of milk donated by major Saudi dairy companies will be distributed to schoolchildren and employees on the milk-drinking day on Saturday. This was announced by Khaled Al-Mirghalani, the official spokesman of the Ministry of Health.
Al-Mirghalani said three ministers will jointly inaugurate the day nationwide in a large celebration that include drinking milk by them publicly. The three ministers are Hamad Al-Manie, minister of health, Abdullah Saleh Al-Obeid, minister of education, and Fahd Balghunaim, minister of agriculture.
“This is the third such day to be launched in the Kingdom since the Ministry of Health took the initiative in launching it three years ago. We are using it as a tool for increasing awareness on the benefits of good nutrition that includes having milk and other dairy products that are rich in calcium, as well as to combat some diseases like osteoporosis that result from not consuming enough calcium,” he said.
Al-Mirghalani said the joint launching of the day by the three ministers, with the participation of local celebrities, underscores the significance of the event from the perspectives of health care, education, nutrition and community as a whole.
