PUNE: The Maharashtra Assembly was adjourned four times on Saturday as the opposition parties demanded the dismissal of Director General of Police Anami Roy. The house was adjourned as the government was not forthcoming with an answer.

Agitated members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena insisted Roy should be dismissed in the wake of a judgment by a court directing the government to register a case against him and six other police officials for harassing Right to Information activist Rajkumar Awasthi. The Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate has directed Vakola police to register a case against Roy and other officials for conspiring to detain Awasthi illegally under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA).
