THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Having successfully developed virtual cadavers, a team of doctors and animation experts are creating Sub-Live Body Concept, the physiologically active body in the digital anatomical structure. An alumnus of TD Medical College in Alappuzha, Dr Jerome Kalister and his team of 25 doctors and IT professionals took only three years to design the software 3D Indiana , which is a virtual cadaver to teach the medicos. “The new project is an extension of the 3D Indiana experiment that is based on IT initiatives,” Dr Kalister said. SLBC is a unique project that is going to revolutionize the classrooms of our colleges.
Cochin airport revenue up 23.5%
KOCHI: The Cochin International Airport Limited, which runs India’s first corporate airport near here, has registered a growth rate of 23.5 percent in profits during the financial year 2007-2008, with its turnover reaching of Rs1.38 billion as against Rs1.12 billion in the previous year. The airport company registered a net profit of Rs468 billion as against Rs372 million during the last term leaving a balance of Rs191 million after offering eight percent dividend per share and the tax on dividends. The gross profit in the fiscal has increased to Rs512 million from Rs444 million last year, a growth rate of 15.4 percent, according to the 14th annual report of the airport company.
Group denies terror charges
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Malappuram-based State head of the Silsila Nooriyya Thwareeqat movement has denied charges that the spiritual movement was recruiting terrorists from Kerala for anti-national activities. Reacting to the statement by Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan in the Kerala Assembly, Yusuf Nisami Sha Zuhoori, state president of the Silsila Nooriyya, said the Hyderabad-based organization was solely concerned with spiritual and metaphysical aspects of life and that it had no link with any terror group. “It is saddening to find our minister blame us for the misdeeds of a handful of people,” Zuhoori said in a statement.
Police to rely more on computers
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Blakrishnan said yesterday that the police force has been directed to use computers extensively so that law and order issues can be tackled more efficiently. The decision to use computers at all police stations was taken at a meeting between Balakrishnan and the top brass of the state police. “To start with computers would be used extensively for day-to-day policing in three of the 14 districts. We do not even mind computerizing records for producing in courts if they are willing,” Balakrishnan said.
Aerobridges to help travelers
KOZHIKODE: Passengers at the Calicut International Airport will soon be able to board aircraft directly from the first floor of the terminal building without touching the tarmac and climbing the step-ladder. The aerobridges will be in place at the airport by the end of January, the airport director Chinson VS Panakkal said.
