JEDDAH: Saudi Aramco has discovered five new oil fields and three gas fields in the Eastern Province, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Ali Al-Naimi announced yesterday. Four of the five oil fields were found in the mainland while the fifth was in a waterlogged region of the province. He named them Jaouf-II, Ramthan-IX, Nayashin-I, Jareed-101 and Khorsaniya-114. “The Jaouf-II well is located 300 km northwest of Dhahran and can produce 2,551 barrels of oil and 1.2 million cubic feet of gas daily,” the minister said.
The Ramthan-IX well is situated 400 km northwest of Dhahran while Nayashin-I is located 60 km northwest of Ramthan. The Saudi oil giant found Jareed-101 in Arabian Gulf waters, about 130 km north of Dhahran, while Khorsaniya-114 about 138 km northwest of the city.
Al-Naimi said the gas fields were found in waterlogged areas along the Arabian Gulf and named them Arabiya-I, Rabeeb-I and Hasba-16.
He said Arabiya-I, located 185 km northeast of Dhahran, can produce 41.1 million cubic feet of gas daily. The other two gas fields are also located within a range of 125 and 200 km northeast of the oil city.
