JEDDAH: Two Saudis who went missing in the Red Sea off the coast of Tufaiah on Monday have been found safe and well by border guards.
The two men — Fahd Khamis, owner of the Princess Yaqut boat, and an unnamed companion — obtained permission from the Border Guard office in Al-Ruwais at 9 a.m. on Sunday to sail for 24 hours.
“Their failure to return the next day triggered a search and rescue mission. The Border Guard received a distress call from the two individuals prompting the Civil Defense and Navy to dispatch aircraft and over 15 navy personnel,” said Lt. Saleh Al-Shehry, the head of public relations at the Border Guard.
“The two men are alive and well. A sea patrol boat found them and brought them to shore,” he added.
Al-Shehry said the search for four individuals who went missing in the Red Sea off Al-Laith is continuing. “There is no indication of their location after border guards found a life jacket four kilometers from where they reportedly went missing,” he added.
