DAMMAM: More than 200 experts from Saudi Arabia and abroad will present research papers on latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases at the fifth International Cardiac Congress, which began here yesterday.
Prince Jalawi bin Abdul Aziz bin Musaed, deputy governor of the Eastern Province who opened the conference at Asharqia Chamber, hoped that the three-day event would contribute to improving health services to heart patients.
“Our government encourages such conferences and seminars to help doctors in the Kingdom get updated with modern developments in their fields of work and interact with international experts and researchers,” the prince said.
Organized by Saud Al-Babtain Cardiac Center (SBCC), the conference will have more than 95 sessions, 500 scientific presentations and eleven workshops. “The program is designed to cover a wide range of cardiac topics,” said Dr. Hamed Al-Omran, director general of SBCC and president of the conference.
Experts from Japan, France, Taiwan, the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, the Netherlands, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon as well as from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries are taking part.
Dr. Tarek Al-Salim, director general of health affairs in the province, emphasized Saudi Arabia’s efforts to improve health services, especially in cardiology.
He said the research papers to be presented at the conference would highlight new developments in diagnosing and treating heart diseases.
Dr. Hani Najm, president of the Saudi Heart Association, said his organization aimed at improving cardiac research, diagnosis and treatment in the Kingdom and facilitating exchange of knowledge and expertise in the field at national and international levels. The association’s 20th annual meeting will be held on the sidelines of the conference.
