THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Delay in setting up the proposed off-campus center of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Kerala has come handy for the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to score a point against the ruling Left. The key ally of the Congress party, which suffered the worst drubbing in the last two elections, has launched a series of agitations blaming the Left Democratic Front (LDF) for the delay in making land available for the campus. The IUML alleges that the state government was depriving the Muslim-dominated backward district of Malappuram of making a huge stride in the field of education.
IT facility to be set up in Thrissur
THRISSUR: The Kerala Government has announced an IT park here as part of its IT development program. Last week, Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran allotted a piece of land for setting up the Infopark Thrissur at Koratty in the district. The 42-acre campus will have an initial investment of Rs.500 million and provide direct employment to 5,000 professionals in two years. “Infopark Thrissur shall form part of the model of development planned with Infopark Kochi acting as the hub. With its proximity to the international airport, we hope it would attract good IT companies,” Ajay Kumar said.
Aloula Geojit on Saudi bourse
KOCHI: Aloula Geojit Brokerage Company, a joint venture between Al Johar group of the Saudi Arabia and Kerala-based Geojit Financial Services, has successfully started trading on TADAWUL, the Saudi stock exchange which had an equity market capitalization of SR1.09 tril-lion ($ 90.09 billion) at the end of October 2008. This joint venture makes Geojit the first Indian stock broking company to commence domestic retail operations in any foreign country.
