JEDDAH: Zenith beat a strong Egyptian team to become champion in the Prince Sultan College for Tourism and Business Basketball Tournament sponsored by National Commercial Bank.
Zenith took the first prize of SR 15,000 and the Egyptians received SR 7,000 for second place. Jeddah United Sports Company organized the tournament. The Colleges Dean, Prof. Yassin Al Jefri, and Student Affairs Supervisor Thamer Abu-Ghalib hosted the tournament to promote the college, sports and healthy lifestyle in the Kingdom.
The Prince Sultan College Jeddah branch offers management, finance and investment, marketing, accounting, human resources, project management, and tourism and hospitality training program. Other sponsors were Roshan Mall on Kings Road where the tournament was held, Gatorade, Hattrick, Fainak and MTV Arabia. The two best teams battled hard from the start with Zenith taking the early lead and double teaming the Egyptians’ best shooter Faouzi. The Egyptians answered with good inside play from their big men Amro and Waleed but Zenith ran some fast breaks and stayed ahead. Zenith led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but the Egyptians cut the lead to 11 points by the end of the half. The second half was tight and the teams traded baskets, but Zenith had done enough damage to stay ahead and won by 10, 52-42. PSC’s Prince Mohammad bin Saud attended the final and presented the trophies and awards. The sponsors’ representatives handed out gifts to the crowd and scholarships to the college for the three-point shooting contest.
