DUBAI: National Unified Procurement Medical Supplies Company (NUPCO) will cooperate with importers and suppliers of medicines and medical equipment and accessories to the public sector hospitals and other health facilities, according to Faisal Al-Mousa, board member of NUPCO.
Al-Mousa made his comments while addressing a meeting with the senior executives of importing and manufacturing companies of medicines and medical accessories at the end of the Arab International Health Exhibition in Dubai on Thursday.
“The company is implementing an advanced system of e-procurement, storage and supply chain and supportive financial and administrative systems to guarantee the supply of quality medicines and equipment and accessories to health facilities in the government sector in the Kingdom in a speedy manner, Emad Al-Aoudah, CEO of the company, said while speaking on the occasion. Khaled Al-Qasbi and Tawfiq Al-Auhali, members of the board of directors of the NUPCO, also attended the meeting.
The NUPCO was established under the full ownership of the General Investment Fund with a SR1.5 billion capitalization and after receiving the approval of the Council of Ministers in September 2007.
“As part of its efforts to achieve its goals the company will build the required infrastructure for the network linking of all the public sector medical facilities for speedy information on the requirements of medicines, equipment and accessories in all medical establishments besides participating in research studies,” Al-Aoudah added.
The company also plans to set up warehouses of the highest standard of specifications, the CEO said.
“The company has hired an international consultancy firm to study the Kingdom’s health sector and assist in drawing up the company’s plans and strategies,” he said.
The board of directors has also selected the logo of the company clearly expressing the role, goal and vision of the company out of 30 logos submitted by various designers.
The company’s services will cover mainly the hospitals run by the National Guard, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defense and Aviation, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Higher Education.
The company will also work in coordination with the General Authority for Food and Medicines with its strategies aimed at raising the quality of medicines and accessories, cutting short the time required for the supply of the items at reasonable prices and in a unified manner, he said.
Al-Aoudah also disclosed the company’s plan to acquire a large fleet of vehicles for the delivery of medical supplies covering the whole country controlled by the e-system.
