JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry began receiving yesterday hundreds of Saudi youths looking for work in restaurants and takeaways in the city as part of a two-week Saudization drive.
There are over 3,000 restaurants in Jeddah employing over 150,000 workers, the majority of whom are foreigners.
Successful applicants can look forward to employment at popular eateries such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, Hardee’s, TGI Friday’s and Krispy Krème.
Waleed Al-Qadi, director general of the Private Restaurants Company, said his organization will appoint 600 Saudi youths this year. He added that the first intake would comprise 200 youths according to a plan formulated by his company’s human resources department.
Al-Qadi said applicants for the supervisor positions should have diplomas and that secondary school certificates are required for the other roles. He added that applications would be processed by the JCCI’s Saudization section.
Abdul Aziz Al-Awwaji, director of human resources and training at the Western Region, said there would be a number of benefits for those who gain employment, including medical insurance and salaries no less than SR3,000 for the supervisor position and SR2,500 for the other jobs.
