RIYADH: A four-day course designed to raise standards of medical education in the Kingdom began on Saturday at Riyadh’s King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center.
The course, entitled “The Third Basic Principles of Undergraduate Medical Education,” was organized by Alfaisal University’s College of Medicine in collaboration with Partners Harvard Medical International (PHMI). It follows the success of a previous course, “The Second Basic Principles in Medical Education.”
One of the aims of the course is to also prepare faculty to implement recent advances in medical education.
The College of Medicine at Alfaisal University is affiliated with PHMI, a nonprofit education entity currently developing an international network of medical excellence, including medical colleges, across the world.
Alfaisal and PHMI have come together to develop a medical college (Alfaisal Medical College) as part of the university. The college will be supervised by Vice President for Academic Affairs and Acting Provost Dr. Ronald Bulbulian and Dean of College of Medicine Dr. Khaled Mana’a Al-Kattan.
The four-day course is accredited by both Saudi and American accreditation bodies. Participants will be certified to receive continuing medical education credits by both PHMI and Alfaisal University.
The course is designed to raise standards of medical education and to prepare faculty to implement recent advances in medical education. It is aimed at providing potential faculty with the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate teaching, training, learning support, appraisal and assessment to undergraduate students by applying their knowledge to new situations.
