MAKKAH: The Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Makkah arrested an expatriate man and his wife for running an illegal matchmaking operation that may have simply been a front for a prostitution racket. The couple claimed that they had arranged a traditional marriage.

The woman, Fareeda, said she found a bride for a man who wanted to get married. The dowry was fixed at SR3,000 while the matchmaker's fee was SR500 - SR200 for a witness and SR300 for Fareeda's husband who officiated the marriage.

However, the commission members challenged the legality of the operation, and arrested Fareeda and her husband.
