JEDDAH: Bangladesh International School (English Section) Jeddah held its annual IGCSE celebration last week. The event commemorated the students’ outstanding performance in the May-June IGCSE and A Level 2008 Cambridge Examination and the award by the British Council of three top performance achievements.
Notable winners were Muhammad Shafile Rashid who obtained top marks in the region in English as a second language, Farhan Adib Ahmed who obtained top marks in Saudi Arabia and fourth in the world ranking for IGCSE economics and Noman Bashir who topped in Saudi Arabia and emerged fourth in the world ranking in A level economics. The event also honored the school’s other top achievers who were awarded gold medals and presented with school crests.
In the A Level examination, Abdullah Mohammad Salimullah achieved 4 A’s and 1B and Ummeee Humaira Jashim Uddin achieved 3 A’s and 1 A. In the IGCSE exam, Mohammed Rayyan Fasry achieved 8 A’s and 1 A; Mohammad Salman Islam and Samiha Sultana each achieved 8 A’s. Mohammed Rayyan Fasry, all three achievers were further awarded school scholarships. The remaining students received certificates of achievement and school crests. Vandana Mittel, senior English teacher, and Sindhu Benny economics teacher, were honored with achievement crests.
Bangladesh Consul General Golam Sarwar and Education Consul at the Bangladesh Consulate Kaiser Islam were among the distinguished guests. School’s governing board Chairman Khaled Akhtar, Vice Chairman and Head of Academics Shah Jahan, Head of Finance Mohammad M. Talukdar and Head of Administration Haider Khaja were among those present.
School Principal Ann Khoaz and Shamim Khan, senior science teacher and British Council coordinator, were among the speakers.
