JEDDAH: Mobily subscribers donated about SR2.5 million to the relief campaign launched by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for the victims of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Under the supervision of the Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission, Mobily set up a hotline number (600-000) to which donors could send SMS messages and donate part of their credit, the telecom company said in a statement.

The statement added that subscribers were quick to respond to King Abdullah’s call.

It also said the company did not charge anything from the donations and that the service was free.

Mobily said its only role was to facilitate the possibility to get donations using its SMS technology. So far SR2,431,520 has been raised, the statement said, adding that the campaign is ongoing.

Mobily was the first Saudi mobile service operator to cut its rates by half to all networks in Palestine for one month. The company also provided the possibility for subscribers to donate their Neqati credit with every 5,000 points equaling SR250.

Mobily staff also participated in a joint blood donation campaign with the King Fahd Medical City.
