TAIF: A gunman has admitted killing two men and injuring 10 others. He opened fire at a private resort in the Al-Sirr area, south of Taif, in the early hours of Thursday in two separate shootings.
Five of the survivors have left hospital after receiving treatment. Some of them said the gunman stormed the resort searching for the people he wanted to kill. When he could not find them he opened fire on everyone and then went outside to search for his intended victims.
One victim’s brother said the killer had a disagreement with his brother and a big fight broke out between them. It ended with a reconciliation meeting. The gunman, who worked as a nurse in a health center in Taif, was then attacked by a group of people and beaten up.
The second victim’s brother, Muteb Al-Sawat, told a local daily his brother received a phone call from the killer moments before he was murdered at the gas station.
“My brother was with my other brother when he came back home. He said that he received many phone calls from an unknown person who did not wish to reveal his name saying that he wanted to meet with him at the gas station,” said Al-Sawat.
“I was shocked to learn that my 24-year-old brother was murdered after he went. My parents are in a very bad psychological situation because of this crime.”
The gunman was transferred to a mental hospital in Taif after his confession on Saturday. Police are awaiting a medical report on his mental status. Police sources say the killer was in financial disagreement with one of the victims over a business deal.
His relatives were shocked at the news and said they did not know the motive behind the attack.
