JEDDAH: The Jeddah Cricket League 3-tier Six-a-Side tournament starts today.
The event attracted 41 teams spread out in three categories namely JCL Div. I (12 teams); JCL Div. II (16 teams) and the JCL Youth (13 teams), according to JCL President Shahid Amin.
The finals and prize distribution will be held on Feb. 20.
Under tournament rules, each team plays with six players and five bowlers. Each bowler will bowl one over of 8 deliveries. Four is counted as 6, and six is counted as 10. No-ball and wide ball carry four runs penalty as well as extra bowl to be bowled. The last man bats alone till he either gets out or the quantum of overs are exhausted.
The return crease has been reduced to three feet instead of four. Each side can use of a maximum of three fielders out of four.
Each division will have its own sets of winner, runner-up and performance awards. There will be three winner cups, three runner-up cups and three sets of outstanding performance awards.
JCL has arranged neutral umpires for each match as well as tournament officials including Saleem Ghani, tournament adjudicator, Zafar Ghadially, tournament coordinator, and Sayed Ziauddin, who will work as tournament referee.
