DAMMAM: Eastern Province Gov. Prince Muhammad bin Fahd has signed an agreement with Saudi Telecom Company to provide wireless Internet service at Alkhobar and Dammam Corniche, and on the highway linking the two cities.
The governor launched the project’s first phase last Tuesday. Zarab bin Saeed Al-Qahtani, undersecretary at the Eastern Province governorate, said the project would cover about 18 km of Alkhobar Corniche, beginning from the Rainbow roundabout in the north to Shubaili in the south. It will cover Dammam Corniche for 15 km from the roundabout in the west to the Marjan Bridge. It will also cover part of the Dammam-Alkhobar Expressway.
“This project is one of the major achievements in telecommunication and the Internet (accessibility),” Al-Qahtani said. “The Eastern Province has played a pioneering role in building intelligent cities and providing innovative services to residents and visitors,” he pointed out.
“This is the largest wireless telecommunication project in the region to provide free Internet services using the most advanced technology,” Al-Qahtani said, adding that the project would help increase the public awareness.
