JEDDAH: Except for the shock 2-1 Al-Ahli defeat by Al-Fat’h on Saturday the round of 16 ended according to form, setting the stage for the quarterfinals in the Crown Prince Cup football tournament.
Al-Hilal qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating Al-Watani in Tabuk 2-0 yesterday and will face Al-Wehda of Makkah in Makkah on Thursday.
Al-Wehda advanced with a 1-0 victory over Al-Ansar of Madinah.
The main match in the quarterfinal stage of the 16-team knockout competition will be between Al-Ittihad and Al-Nasr at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah on Thursday.
Ittihad reached the last eight after defeating Al-Raid 3-1 in Jeddah yesterday. Al-Nasr qualified after defeating Al-Faihaa 2-0 in Riyadh on Saturday.
Al-Fat’h’s upset win against Ahli earned the squad a spot in the quarterfinals on Wednesday opposite Al-Shabab, a 2-1 winner over Abha.
The last match of the quarterfinals will be between Al-Hazem and Ittifaq. Al-Hazem qualified after beating Najran 1-0 and Ittifaq after crushing Riyadh 3-0.
