JEDDAH: Al-Shabab and Al-Hazem were the first teams to advance to the semifinals with almost procedural quarterfinal victories over Al-Fat’h 1-0 in Al-Ahsaa and Al-Ittifaq 2-0 yesterday in the Crown Prince Cup football tournament.
In Al-Rass, Hazem got goals from Deyab Majrashi in the 14th minute and Waleed Al-Jizani in the 64th minute to put away the fancied Ittifaq side.
Ahmad Ajab headed in the only goal of the match in the 68th minute as Shabab scored the victory and in the process stopped Al-Fat’h’s surprising run.
Today the big match will feature Al-Ittihad and Al-Nasr at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal stadium in Jeddah. Ittihad advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Al-Raid 3-1.
Nasr qualified with a 1-0 victory over Al-Faihaa 2-0 in Riyadh.
The other match today pits Al-Hilal against Al-Wehda in Makkah.
The winner of both matches today will play against each other in the semifinals on Monday. Shabab and Hazem will face off on Sunday.
