JEDDAH: Al-Hilal claimed its spot in the semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Al-Wehda in the Crown Prince Cup football tournament yesterday.
The only goal of the quarterfinal match played in Makkah came from defender Osama Hawsawi, who blasted home a fine header in the 38th minute from a corner kick. Hawsawi was a former player at Wehda who transferred to Hilal earlier this season.
Despite the loss, Wehda fans were satisfied with the result.
Later in the day, Al-Nasr set up a final four clash with Hilal by beating Al-Ittihad on penalty kicks 5-3 after the regulation and extra periods produced no result at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here. The match score was 6-4 for Nasr.
Muhammad Nur grabbed a last-gasp equalizer for Ittihad in the second extra time after Rayya Bilal scored the first goal of the match earlier in the period. Nasr’s penalty kicks came from Hussam Ghali, Elton, Al-Waked, Edir and Barnawi. For Ittihad, Renald, Nur, Al-Sagri scored and Miteb missed.
