RIYADH: A newly launched website to nominate and vote for personalities across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize has garnered support with people already casting their votes.
The MEA Nobel Prize Vote Association website (www.votefornobelprize.com) is campaigning to nominate Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The association says it is “promoting the king as a humanitarian and man of peace for initiating a constructive dialogue between faiths (interfaith dialogue) that allow people and nations to rediscover their shared ideals, conquer evil and provide mankind with a just, secure and prosperous future.”
It added that King Abdullah is the first genuine reformer in the Kingdom’s history to embark on a mission of statecraft to transform the institutions and partnerships of the Kingdom.
The association, which is promoting its website and encouraging the general public worldwide to cast their votes in a variety of events across the MEA, intends to present the Nobel Foundation with contenders from the MEA worthy of the award and chosen by the people.
“Some people’s unnoticed good deeds ought to be recognized. It is our responsibility as human beings to support the good in this world and make examples for the world to follow,” said Georges Joujou, a Lebanese humanitarian and MEA Nobel Prize Vote Association founder.
“The world needs to reawaken to the good that unites us and this initiative aims to do that by recognizing the people who are not deterred by the injustices, evil forces and the bad but are rather impelled and motivated to make a difference,” he added.
The MEA Nobel Prize Vote Association is a humanitarian body based in Lebanon with representatives across the MEA. It consists of a group of individuals who share common beliefs and values of the social role and responsibility toward the improvement of humanity.
