AL-JOUF: The Civil Defense rescued a seven-year-old boy who fell into an artesian well at a farm some 25 km from Qurayat in northern Saudi Arabia.

“Two Civil Defense teams rescued the boy from the well, which is 12 meters wide and 35 meters deep. The boy is in good health,” said Maj. Attaullah Al-Ruwaili, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Al-Jouf province.

The Civil Defense also ordered the farm’s owner to fill the well to prevent any future accidents.

Last year Mazin Al-Zahrani, two, fell into an artesian well in Jeddah. It took the Civil Defense four hours to bring him out. In a previous case, two young boys died after falling into a well in Madinah.

The Civil Defense battled for seven hours to rescue them by which time they had died. Subsequently, the victims’ father filed a lawsuit against both the Civil Defense in Madinah and Madinah municipality, demanding SR10 million in compensation.
