MANAMA: Traffic authorities in Bahrain have enforced a ban on bumper stickers or any other colorful painting that change the appearance of cars.
Lt. Col. Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Sabah Al-Khalifa warned drivers who violate the ban could face stiff penalties. “The ban is imposed as these stickers change the appearance and color of the cars. It becomes difficult for us to track down drivers involved in hit-and-run accidents,” he said.
An increasing number of youth in the kingdom modify their cars by painting them or putting bumper stickers. Some drivers display pictures of religious leaders or the leadership.
However, Abdulrahman said the ban would exclude companies, which place their logos or stickers on their cars. “Drivers should consult the authority before placing any sticker or changing color of their cars to avoid being penalized,” he said.
The Traffic Directorate is now working on a strategy with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to come down heavily on car accessories shops by ordering them not to place any stickers without permission from the authorities. “We will soon launch a nationwide campaign to urge all drivers to cooperate with us,” Abdulrahman said.
