DUBAI: Prince Badr bin Abdulmuhsin will host a poetry evening on March 9 as part of Dubai International Poetry Festival 2009. The evening will begin at 8.30 p.m. at the Dubai World Trade Centre and an invited audience of regional and international poets, critics, and litterateurs will attend it. Prince Badr is well known in the Gulf and his poetry is famous for its patriotic sentiments about Saudi Arabia, in addition to his affection for other Gulf countries including the UAE.
“Prince Badr writes poetry in various styles, including the traditional Nabti, vertical prose, and free-style. He has also presented a unique piece of work that combines his handwriting and self-made decorations in an interesting weave of words and drawings,” Jamal bin Huwaireb Al Muhairi, chairman of the Dubai International Poetry Festival Organizing Committee said in a statement.
The festival will aim to revive the popular ancient tradition of “Souq Ukadh”, reiterating the modern day relevance of what was once renowned for its eloquent rhythmic prose. Madinat Jumeirah and the Dubai House of Poetry in Al Shindagha are some of the venues that will host events dedicated to the festival.
