RIYADH: The Indian Engineers Forum (IEF) marked their 10th anniversary here yesterday, with Technical & Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) Vice Gov. Saleh A. Al-Amr, the guest of honor, giving an overview of the technical training programs in the Kingdom.
The event was attended by Rajeev Shahare, deputy chief of Indian mission, and Raymond C. Chaplow, general manager of Steelcase Jeraisy Ltd.
IEF President Owais Ahmed welcomed the guests. Amir Khan, IEF chairman, spoke about the genesis of the forum with special reference to its growth and achievements during its decade-old journey. The program was conducted by Faisal Ziauddin and Suhail Ahmed. Other guests included Samer Mazloum, chief of Wetico; Nadeem Tarin, a well-known businessman and Afzal Sanai, a prominent community leader.
Al-Amr said the Saudi government had allocated SR10 billion to build a Kingdomwide infrastructure for technical and vocational training program.
The students now would have the option to choose from 160 training areas earmarked by the TVTC, he added.
The training program under the National System for Joint Training, he said, would be supported by Saudi chambers, private sector companies and Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF). He pointed out the Saudi government would bear 100 percent of the cost of training, while students would also be given some salary.
This will be in addition to a military vocation training program to be launched by TVTC in collaboration with some government agencies including the National Guard, the Ministry of Defense & Aviation and the Interior Ministry.
Shahare called on the public and private sector agencies from the Kingdom and India to forge closer cooperation in technical training sector.
