JEDDAH: “How to become an international arbitrator” is the theme of the first training program on arbitration skills in Saudi Arabia to be held in Jeddah from March 9 to11.
Dr. Fahd ibn Mushabab Al-Khafir, chairman of the program’s scientific committee and an accredited arbitrator at the Justice Ministry, said the program would be held in collaboration with the Afro-Asian International Arbitration Center and would be organized by Al-Moor Training Center under the supervision of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation.
Around 500 legal experts and legal consultants in various sectors and over 1,000 lawyers are expected to attend the event, said Al-Khafir, who is also a member of the GCC International Arbitration Center.
He said the program is aimed at presenting the legal origins of arbitration in the legal systems of Middle East countries, development of legal and judicial skills related to arbitration, elements of arbitration as a special judicial system, importance of arbitration consent, procedures of arbitration and mechanisms of its work in issuing final verdicts.
Al-Khafir said the program would tackle 30 issues, including the development of arbitration laws in the Kingdom, types of arbitration and other means of settling disputes. He said many prominent arbitrators would participate in the program, including the Secretary-General of the Afro-Asian International Arbitration Center and the chairman of the Qatar Arbitration Center.
