PUNE: Congress party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar on Tuesday is seen as a significant political maneuver.
Speaking after the meeting, Rahul said it was a prescheduled meeting meant to help him understand western Maharashtra’s success in cooperative sugar production and explore possibilities of replicating it in Uttar Pradesh. But the timing of the meeting — 24 hours ahead of the Election Commission's announcement of Lok Sabha poll schedule sparked speculations.
Rahul’s visit to the city was kept secret and senior Congress leaders learned about it only hours before it actually took place.
Rahul also visited the Congress party headquarters in the city and launched the party's Lok Sabha poll campaign.
