JEDDAH: A municipal official said yesterday the authorities would not back down from a project to develop the old Jeddah districts. Walid Abdul Aal, executive vice president in charge of developing underdeveloped areas of the city, said a committee had been set up to calculate compensations for those who have properties in the area.
“Our company has set out good solutions for the people of Nuzlah district, one of the areas to be developed under the project,” Abdul Aal said after a meeting with people of the area.
“Nuzlah development is the beginning of a large-scale project to develop the Khozam area and its neighboring residential districts,” he told Arab News. “Most of the buildings in the area are old.”
Mamdouh Al-Adeeni, director of underdeveloped areas at the municipality, said the compensations would be determined considering the location of the property. He disclosed plans to build more than 2,000 new housing units for the residents of Nuzlah. “We are now looking for land to carry out this project and the area will be named New Nuzlah.”
