JEDDAH: Al-Shabab won the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Cup soccer tournament when they beat Al-Nasr 4-3 in a shootout after regulation and extra-time failed to produce any goal.
Al-Shabab thus made up for the Crown Prince Cup competition that they lost against Al-Hilal earlier this year.
Though Shabab dominated most of the first half, it was Nasr that looked more dangerous in their attempts at the rival goal.
Nasr nearly scored in the dying moments of the first half when Hasan Rabie’s header hit the crossrbar and was scrambled to safety by the Shabab defenders.
In the second half both teams had equal share of the exchanges with Shabab having an edge.
The teams went into extra time after regulation time failed to produce any goal.
It became obvious that both teams needed to end the match before the lucky penalty kicks.
Shabab were more dangerous in the second half of extra time and came close to scoring on two occasions. First following a corner kick when Naif Al-Ghadi found himself face to face with the goalie but failed to score.
The match had to be decided through penalty kicks after both goalkeepers, Khaled Radi from Nasr and Waleed Abdullah from Shabab, managed to keep their slate clean.
For Nasr side, Elton, Ibraheem Madkhali and Ahmad Al-Bahri scored while Eder, Rayyan Belal and Hamad Al-Sqoor missed their shots.
Kamatcho, Hasan Muaz, Naser Al-Shmarani and Abdu Utaif scored for Shabab and Ahmad Utaif and Saleh Sddique missed.
Prince Sultan bin Fahd President of the Youth Welfare Presidency, awarded Shabab the gold medals and the cup while Nasr was awarded the silver medals.
