MANAMA: Bahrain authorities are urging parents not to leave their children unattended, following the death of a five-year-old boy in his house.
The boy sustained burn injuries and died of suffocation, after the family house was gutted in a fire in Muharraq.
The domestic worker escaped unhurt with five children out of the house, but forgot the boy who was sleeping in the room
The General Director of Civil Defense said the firefighting team reached the house within six minutes of receiving the stress call on Monday morning.
"Two rooms of the house were gutted. By the time the rescue team arrived the boy was dead," an official said.
The fire was controlled from spreading to other houses in the neighborhoods.
The authorities have launched investigation into the case. The local media has reported several cases of children injured because they left unattended at homes and cars. Authorities plan to launch a campaign during summer holidays educating children and calling upon parents to take extra precaution.
